Ethiraj College was founded in 1948 in Chennai by Shri Thiru.V.M.Muralidharan. The College offers a diverse range of programs at UG, PG, and research programs under Aided and Self-supporting categories in the departments of Economics, Botany, Chemistry, History, Zoology, and English Literature. Commerce, Mathematics, and Physics.
In 1981 Ethiraj College introduced the evening shift for students seeking flexible learning schedules. Later on, the college also introduced self-financed job-oriented UG courses such as B.Com (Bank Management), BBA, B.Sc Biochemistry, and B.Sc. Microbiology.
