Rabindra Bharati University Admission 2025-26: RBU offers a large number of courses to students of Kolkata and India. The university offers admission to a vast number of UG, PG, Diploma, Certificate, and PhD courses in multiple disciplines. The online registration for the academic year 2025-26 for all the offered courses will start from 15 May 2025 on the university’s official website https://www.rbu.ac.in.

Students can pursue RBU PG courses in a variety of disciplines like humanities, commerce, fine arts, etc. These courses required a Bachelor’s degree in the relevant field from a recognized university. There will be entrance exams for MFA and MPA, while admission to the rest of the master’s courses will be merit-based. RBU PG application form for academic session 2025-26 will be released on 15 May 2025. The last date to apply will be 30 June 2025 and the application form fee will be INR 1000/.

Rabindra Bharati University PhD Admission 2025-26

The RBU offers doctoral-level degrees that allow students to do advanced research in humanities, fine arts, and cultural studies. Students having a postgraduate/MPhil degree with at least 55% marks (50% for SC/ST/OBC candidates) are eligible for these courses.

Generally, the admission process for Rabindra Bharati University PhD courses starts in the last week of June with the deadline of August. The selection of the students is based on the RBU PhD entrance test (RBU-RET) or national-level entrance tests like UGC NET, and CSIR NET followed by a personal interview of the selected applicants in their respective departments.

Eligibility Criteria For RBU Admission 2025-26

  • For UG Programs: Applicants must pass their 12th class with min 50% mark in the relevant subjects.
  • For PG Programs: Students are required to pass a UG degree like BA/BCom/BSc or equivalent UG degree from a valid university with 50-50% marks in relevant streams.
  • For PhD Programs: Candidates must have a master’s or MPhil degree with 55% marks in their chosen field. Also, students having a 4 years UG degree as per NEP can also be eligible.

(Note: Students from reserved categories such as SC/ST/OBC may have a relaxation of 5% in total aggregate marks.)

Although RBU admissions are merit-based however, some programs require entrance-based performance to get admission:

  • Fine Arts and Performing Arts: The university conducts practical examinations like painting, vocal performance, or dance auditions for admission to BFA/MFA/BPA/BPA.
  • PhD Entrance Test: The university conducts its own PhD entrance test (RBU-RET). However, students who have appeared in the UGC NET or similar national exam will be exempted from this exam.
  • Merit-Based Admissions: Several UG and PG courses do not require exams but consider prior academic performance.

Rabindra Bharati University Merit List

The merit list is the final step towards getting admission to RBU. After completing the application process or conducting the entrance exam (incase of PHD and some UG/PG courses), the university publishes a list of selected candidates who can proceed to document verification or personal interview to the university. RBU merit lists are based on applicants’ performance in the qualifying examinations. For the academic session 2025-26, the admission list will be released on 10 July 2025 for the various UG and PG courses.
