Banaras Hindu University (BHU) was started in 1916 by Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya. Earlier, it was known as “Kashi Hindu Vishwavidyalaya“. The university is one of the most reputed higher education institutions in India and is ranked at 6th place in the NIRF Ranking 2025. Banaras Hindu University Admission 2026-27
The university will start the admission process for the academic year 2026 on 20 February 2026. The university is granting admission to its 130+ courses at UG, PG, Diploma, and Certificate levels. These courses are available in the field of Arts, Commerce, Science, Medical, Engineering, Education, Law & many other fields. BHU UG Admission 2026-27
The university offers admission to various UG courses, including BEd, BA LLB, BTech, BSc, etc. Students can choose these courses in Fine Arts, Performing Arts, Agriculture, Food & Dairy Technology, Medical Imaging, and Radiotherapy fields. The average fee for most undergraduate courses is between ₹3,000 to ₹97,800 per semester.
Banaras Hindu University will begin the registrations for UG admission counselling, which is based on CUET-UG 2026 score, NEET UG 2026 score, and JEE Mains/Advanced, UP BEd score. After the results of these tests, candidates need to register on BHU’s admission portal and visit the CAP-UG 2026 portal (Central Allotment Program). Students must register here after the exam to be considered for admission.
25 April 2026 will be the last date for BHU UG admission 2026-27. Basic requirements for UG courses are 10+2 2ith relevant subject and min marks. However, students are advised to check the program-specific eligibility criteria and CUET subject combinations before applying.
BHU PG Admission 2026
Banaras Hindu University (BHU) offers many postgraduate (PG) courses for students who want to do a master’s degree in their respective subjects. The university offers a broad selection of PG courses such as MA, MSc, MCom, MEd, MPA, MTech, MFA, LLM, MEd, MVSC, MBA, among others. One can choose the PG courses in subjects humanities, commerce, Chemistry, Physics, Botany, Computer Science, Law, Education, and many regional and foreign languages.
The average fees for PG courses with courses is start from ₹10,000 and can go over ₹1,00,000 per year. The basic requirement is a PG degree plus course-specific requirements. BHU PG admission for the year 2026-27 is conducted through the CUET-PG, GATE, CAT, NEET PG, and other entrance exams.
The registrations for BHU admission counseling for PG programmes are starting soon for students who have appeared in the mentioned exams only. Eligible students need to register for the CAP-PG 2026 (Central Allotment Program for PG Courses).
BHU PhD Admission 2026-27
BHU offers doctoral degrees in various research fields from humanities, social sciences, physical sciences, engineering, law, visual arts, Sanskrit studies, and education. Admission to BHU PhD courses is primarily based on the NTA-conducted PhD Entrance Test 2026 and personal interview. However, the university allows exemption to candidates with valid fellowships, such as UGC-NET JRF or CSIR. Such a student directly appears in the interview round.
The university releases a selected candidates list (merit list) after conducting both rounds. Afterwards, selected students need to complete the document verification and fee submission in their respective departments to complete the BHU admission. The Doctor of Philosophy course at BHU is a 3-year degree. The fee range for this course is between ₹15,000 and ₹65,000 per year, depending on the faculty and department.
BHU Admission Eligibility Criteria
The basic eligibility for admission to Banaras Hindu University courses is as follows:
For UG Admission
- Students must have passed Class 12th or equivalent from a recognized board.
- Students must have the required subjects for their chosen course.
- The min marks requirement is between 50% to 60% for different courses.
- The university also follows the state reservation policy for SC/ST/OBC/EWS students.
For PG Admission
- Applicants need to have a Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent from a UGC-approved university.
- Applicants must have a relevant discipline or subjects for their master’s degree.
- The PG courses required min marks between 50% to 55%.
For PhD Admission
- Candidates must have a Master’s degree or MPhil degree from a reputed Indian university.
- Candidates must have secured at least 55% marks (50% for SC/ST/OBC/PwD) in their master’s.
- Also, a good score in the NTA PhD entrance exam or a valid fellowship (NET-JRF, GATE, etc).
BHU Entrance Exams 2026
The university considers different entrance tests for different courses. There are 8+ national and state-level exams for BHU admission.
- CUET-UG 2026: This test is required for admission to most undergraduate courses except BEd, BA BEd, BTech, and medical courses.
- CUET-PG 2026: It is a mandatory test for admission majority of courses except MEd, MTech, etc.
- NEET 2026: Students need to take this test for admission to MBBS, BDS, BAMS, and other medical courses under IMS-BHU.
- JEE Main/Advanced 2026: To get admission to the BTech course at IIT-BHU, one needs to take this test.
- UP B.Ed Entrance Test: It is a state-level entrance test required for B.Ed. admission.
- NCET 2026: The National Common Entrance Test is conducted by the NTA for admission to integrated education courses like BA BEd.
- NTA PhD Entrance Test: PhD admission to all courses is done through this test. However, exemption from this test is UGC NET/GAT/CSIR NET/NET JRF.
- GATE: BHU MTech admission for all specializations is completed through the performance in this test.
BHU Admission Merit List
After the results of various entrance tests, the Banaras Hindu University will prepare merit lists based on the marks secured by applicants in the respective exams. Afterwards, the university released the course-wise merit lists on its official BHU admission portal. There is multiple separate merit lists for each UG and PG course. This list will contain the names of the selected students whom the university will call out for counselling, interview, document verification, and fee submission. Completing this final process allows students to confirm their seats.
